Effective Pearly Penile Papules Treatment

Pearly penile papules treatment is not necessary as penile papules involve no health risk to you or your sexual partner. Meaning all penile papules treatments are optional and for cosmetic reasons only.

However, if your pearly penile papules (PPP) are causing you serious distress then there are safe and effective ways to remove them (as well as not so safe or effective ways).

Medical Removal Of Pearly Penile Papules

Medical removal (by qualified health specialist / dermatologist) is the best way to remove penile papules effectively and safely. The most common penile papules medical procedures are:

CO2 Laser Removal

Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser has been the most advanced method to remove penile papules. The laser removes the penile papules bumps without damaging the surrounding skin or causing scarring.

Green laser light

CO2 penile papules laser removal is a simple and safe outpatient procedure, i.e. does not require hospital stay. The process usually takes under 30 minutes and requires only local anesthesia. Discomfort should be minimal and full recovery usually takes 1-2 weeks.

CO2 laser removal has been the most effective option to get rid of pearly penile papules but it is also the most expensive option.

Radio wave surgery or radiosurgery is new technology that has been successfully used to treat various skin conditions, including pearly penile papules.

Radio waves are used to burn off the penile papules tissues under local anesthesia. The procedure takes 30-45 minutes and full recovery usually takes between 7-10 days.

Radiosurgery has shown to be effective penile papules treatment with few side effects (no scarring) and is therefore fast becoming as popular treatment option as CO2 penile papules laser removal. Radiosurgery is usually a cheaper option than CO2.

Some PPP specialists now go as far as stating that radiosurgery as their preferred pearly penile papules treatment.

Electrosurgery (electro desiccation with curettage) removes the penile papules bumps by scraping them away with electric pulse (Hyfrecator) under local anesthesia. The wounds are cauterized (burned) to stop the bleeding and seal the wound.

Scarring of the penis in unavoidable and it may damage the surrounding tissues as well, i.e. which may reduce the sensitivity of the penis. It usually takes the patient around two weeks to return to normalcy.

Surgical Excision

The penile papules bumps are surgically removed by surgical blade and the wound closed with sutures. Surgical excision can be done under local anesthetic and the procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes.

This is among the cheapest medical removal options but patients take longer to recover and scarring is also unavoidable. Furthermore, the penile papules can reappear in some cases. These downsides mean that surgical excision is not very popular PPP treatment option these days.

Cryosurgery (freezing) is popular way to remove warts, moles and other skin imperfections and has been used to remove penile papules as well.

Liquid Nitrogen is applied on the affected area causing the skin below the penile papules to blister and later form into a crust and fall off (within couple of weeks).

Cryosurgery is among the cheapest pearly penile papules treatment options but many have questioned its success in treating PPP. The disadvantages are also considerable, i.e. scarring, numbness, irritation, redness of the area and recovery time is long, it usually takes 2-4 weeks to return to normalcy.

There is always some risk involved with any medical procedure. This is why medical removal of pearly penile papules is only recommended for those that are seriously affected by them (serious physiological distress).

Because penile papules treatment is optional and for cosmetic reasons then you might have to bear the full cost of your medical removal treatment. The cost can be significant, CO2 laser treatment costs thousands of dollars (estimated around $1,500-3,000 depending on the specialist).

My pearly penile papules treatment comparison table shows the pros and cons of each medical removal treatment, listed in order of the most expensive first.

The cost of pearly penile papules treatments varies between countries and surgeons / dermatologists but this represents the current most common price structure in the US.

Medical removal is the only known safe and effective way to treat pearly penile papules. Still there are lots of alternative PPP treatments on offer.

Penile papules are more common among men that have not been circumcised. Circumcision will though neither prevent the development of pearly penile papules nor cure them. Circumcised men can also develop penile papules

Alternative Pearly Penile Papules Treatments

There are lots of alternative penile papules treatments on offer, despite little or no scientific support for their effectiveness.

Alternative treatments and home remedies that men have used to treat penile papules include various OTC topical creams, wart removal products, toothpaste, vitamins A and E, honey, retina A, castor oil, etc.

None of those alternative methods have been shown to be effective and some might possible be harmful. The cost of using and trying different alternative treatments can also add up quickly.

Don't use any home remedies or topical wart treatments unsupervised. It could make matters significantly worse, e.g. permanent scarring or infection

For the above reasons, I have chosen not to represent any alternative pearly penile papules treatment products on this website.
